Last month Ed and I took another quick trip this time to Barnsley Resort https://www.barnsleyresort.com/ . This is a resort north of Atlanta established on land once owned by one of the richest cotton factors of the ante-bellum South. It has an interesting story told in a book written by the resort historian and documented in the on-site museum. We had a chance to meet and talk with him at length. Ruins of the Italianate house still stand surrounded by a village of visitor cottages built from designs by Andrew Jackson Downing. As a resort it boasts the usual assortment of recreation such as golf, shooting range, horseback riding, canoeing and spa. But we were more interested in the museum, ruins, farm and hiking up to the overlook. Although families and individuals may visit it looks like it is mainly targeted toward corporate retreats. It’s pricey but charming, though I can’t recommend the she-crab soup. Some of my photos can be seen on my homepage slide show.
