AARP 2019 Calendar Contest

April 08, 2018  •  1 Comment

I like to enter shows and contests for several reasons least of all to win, although that is nice when it happens. But mainly as a challenge and a way of evaluating my work. I have learned that different shows, contests, and judges have very different criteria and in order to do well in any show I need to understand their criteria. This challenges me to try different styles. Most of the time I enter new pieces, but sometimes I rework older pieces as is the case for the AARP 2019 Calendar Contest  The theme is "Treasure Every Day." I chose three photos that I feel represent the theme by their names "Treasure Small Moments," "Treasure Quiet Moments," and "Treasure Magnificent Moments." Since there will be a huge number of entries I don't expect to win, but it is fun to try and offers me a chance to rethink my photos in a new context. You can see my entries on my homepage slide show here. These were taken at Anna Ruby Falls and Sandy Creek Nature Center. Which one do you like best?
