As many of my friends know, last Thursday I retired after 16 years with the University System of Georgia Information Technology Services. My co-workers honored me with a wonderful day including a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Naturally I thought what a great photo subject that would make. I used the new 50mm prime lens my husband gave me as a retirement gift and went for a moody, chiaroscuro type look. I started with an overall shot of the entire bouquet, and then captured some of the individual flowers within the bouquet including just a bit of their context within the bouquet maintaining the look. I used two florescent light sources, but from the same direction. A large source aimed up for general illumination and a smaller light with a grid to direct the light onto the bouquet. I wish the bouquet could last longer, but at least the photos will. See them all on my homepage slide show.
