Sandy Creek Nature Center in Winter

I made my usual post holiday visit to SCNC with my family and my camera. Although it is the same place. It always looks different. Of course I took my obligatory shot of the ent at the trail head. This one will make a nice Halloween card. Look for it next October. The pond was low, the trees were bare of leaves, there seemed to be little of interest, and yet I like this landscape over the pond. It is almost a minimalist study. Since there was little in the way of wildlife that day I went up to the furnace ruins. While searching for a new angle the oven and chimney seemed to resemble to me not just the ruins of the past, but perhaps ruins of the future. An old broken portal to another dimension and a time tunnel in disuse. Someday the future will be the past, too. That seems both ominous and comforting on New Year's Eve. Here is hoping 2017 is not as bad as it could be. See these photos on my homepage slideshow.
